Volunteering for Veterans

Today is my second visit to the veterans food pantry in the medical district. Meet up runs a volunteering group to help the existing team here run a food pantry.

Its an early start -you need to be at the food pantry by 8am to register and start preparing bags for the shopping.

Basically we double bag as many bags as we can to fill the trolleys ready for the veterans shopping.

When the food arrives we bag fresh produce - for example like today pears. We unbox cans and assemble it all on to long tables.

We take a break around 10 and then come back for a briefing. Vetrans come in around 1130 and are assigned a personal shopper for their visit.

Last time I did this we served 180 veterans!

There's always seems to be a really good vibe at this hospital which makes it enjoyable and satisfying to help.
